Staff Ratios

Industry Standards - Low Staff Ratios
Poor nursing assistant staffing ratios (1:7, 1:10, 1:15 or worse) are the cause of many issues in long term care facilities.  The results of being understaffed include: improper care, neglect, staff burnout, poor resident nutrition, increased falls, etc...  The list goes on and on.  According to Jeanie Kayser-Jones, a professor at the University of California, San Francisco who researches nursing-home issues, a nursing assistant the person tasked with providing the bulk of the care, including feeding, bathing, and clothing residents should be in charge of no more than three people during daytime hours.  Although research shows the importance of nursing assistant and RN staffing ratios many facilities maintain the status quo.

Heart to Home Standards - High Staff Ratios
When you visit Heart to Home you will immediately experience the difference in staffing ratios.  Each of our homes has one nursing assistant to three residents (1:3) during the day and evening and one nursing assistant to six residents during the overnight.  In addition we have oversight and hands-on management from a team of registered nurses and supporting managers.  On many days, you will find an equal number of staff to residents in our homes.  Our outstanding staff ratios are a hallmark of Heart to Home which allows us to care for each person on an individual basis.  The results?  Increased staff satisfaction, increased resident satisfaction, improved care and most importantly, the creation of deep meaningful relationships between our staff and residents.
